| Dear 5th Bridge Pledgers, Happy spring!!!!! Yes, it really is coming!!!! After a really long winter, wouldn’t it feel great to gather your friends or loved ones, get outside and participate in an activity that will make a difference? Earth Day (April 22) and National Volunteer Week (April 23–May 3) are both celebrated this month; here are a few fun and easy ways that you can participate locally. RECYCLE USED BOOKS: Donate your used books to the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary’s “Great Northfield Book Raid.” Books can be dropped off at the Ice Arena from 4pm to 6pm Monday thru Friday, and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. During the week of April 14, books can be dropped off from 9am to 5pm. The sale begins on April 22. EARTH DAY PROJECT: Buckthorn removal at Hauberg Woods Park (Thye Parkway and Lockwood Drive) on Saturday, April 26, from 9am to 3pm. Volunteers can drop in and work for a couple of hours or stay for the day. Wear comfortable clothes with long sleeves. Training, gloves and tools will be provided on site. See the posting on our website, www.5thbridge.org, or contact Dan Hudson at 651-442-6067 or email hudsond@stolaf.edu for further information. VOLUNTEER TO TURN YOUR UNWANTED ITEMS INTO CASH FOR YOUR FAVORITE CAUSE OR CHARITY: Get involved in 5th Bridge’s 1st Annual Goods for Good - The Great Northfield Rummage Raid for Charity. This environmentally friendly, community-building, fund-raising event will be held the first weekend in May. Our goal is to recruit at least 50 sites to host a rummage sale or refreshment stand with at least 50% of the proceeds benefiting a good cause. This is a great service and fund-raising opportunity for families, neighborhoods, churches, nonprofit organizations, service clubs, Circles of Service, sports teams, school groups, friends, etc… Kids can get involved too by hosting a toy sale or refreshment stand. What a great opportunity to teach your kids the value of service and giving. 5th Bridge will organize the event, help mobilize the site hosts, develop a tool kit to make the project easier, give ideas for sale beneficiaries, create a map with site locations, provide regional promotion and organize a success celebration. The deadline to register is April 15. Visit our website to register to host a sale or refreshment stand. Contact Candy Taylor with questions at candy@5thbridge.org or call 507-581-3017. Also visit www.5thbridge.org for more information. Thank you for all that you do to make a difference! Sincerely,
Candy Taylor and your friends at 5th Bridge |
