| Dear 5th Bridge Pledgers, Thank you for all your service in our community and around the world. The time, talents and treasure that you share really do make a wonderful difference. If you have some extra time and are looking for ways to volunteer or get involved, here are a few ideas: Autumn is upon us, the leaves are starting to fall, and the weather is getting cooler. It’s time to start preparing for winter. Check with your neighbors to see if anyone needs help raking leaves, or preparing their houses for winter. If you don’t know anyone who you could help, you can check with your local church, CAC or Northfield Senior Center for a possible referral. The YMCA is looking for volunteers to help with fall programming. Visit www.northfieldymca.org or call Jackie at 507-645-0562. The Buckthorn Project is in full swing on the St. Olaf and Carleton campuses. Site clearing and buckthorn removal continues, and the sculpture process has begun and will run through next week. If you are interested in getting involved and/or learning more, click here. Attend the Laura Baker Services Gala on October 13th and hear the story about the friendship between 5th Bridge pledger, Janet Tritch and Laura Baker client Margie, or read about it under “Stories” at www.5thbridge.org. For Gala ticket information, call Jane Fenton at 507-645-8866. Are you interested in mentoring children of prisoners? Coach What Counts is hosting an event this Saturday, October 6th, at 9:30 am at the Faribault E-Free Church. Call Deb Johnson-Schad at 507-649-1699. As Halloween approaches, don’t forget about idea #30 Give out healthy treats, pencils, coins, or toothbrushes instead of candy and idea #72 Collect money for a good cause. Encourage your kids to collect for UNICEF while trick or treating. With the interest in Circles of Service growing, 5th Bridge is looking for more and more innovative service ideas for groups of people. If you have any ideas for projects in the Northfield area, please e-mail them to candy@5thbridge.org and we will share the ideas with others. Please know that all your efforts are appreciated and that the habits of volunteering and giving will make you happier and healthier and help you to live longer. In gratitude,
