Northfield Hospital Auxiliary’s Great Book Raid a Huge Success

Published June 24th, 2006 by Tim Jackson

The 45th annual Northfield Hospital Auxiliary Great Book Raid held this past April was a huge success grossing approximately $39,000.

This book sale, that has become a Northfield tradition, benefits the community in so many ways. Not only do they raise money to benefit our hospital, but they also provide the community with an outlet to donate used books as well as giving the community access to a huge selection of books at bargain prices. Everybody wins!

The book sale was organized and implemented this year by co-chairs Mary Schwake, Marge Barnes, Linda Barck and Char Duresky and their army of over 200 dedicated volunteers.

The Northfield Hospital Auxiliary does so many wonderful things for our community. Last year, they provided the funding for our hospital’s Emergency Notification System to enable our hospital to quickly and efficiently respond to emergencies. They have also purchased a Dual Infusion Pump, which helps patients by making the process of chemotherapy go faster. Each year they provide several college scholarships for graduating Northfield students who are pursuing a career in healthcare. They also provide funding to help under-insured or un-insured people purchase their prescriptions. They funded a Medi-lift and many other things over the past 45 years.

The people of the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary help make a visit to the hospital a more loving and pleasant experience. Their volunteers are responsible for the baby books and hand-knit caps given to each baby born at the hospital. They staff the gift shop and help out in outpatient surgery recovery. They hand-knit Toe Cozies for diabetic patients.

Our community is so lucky to have the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary. If you run into any of their volunteers, please take a minute to say thank-you.
