Reasons to Write…An Intergenerational Pen-Pal Experience

Published February 18th, 2009 by Tim.

Common Good RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is looking for adult volunteers to participate in a letter writing program with 2nd graders at Sibley Elementary School. If you enjoy writing letters and are looking for a short term commitment, this opportunity may be for you!

During the months of March and April, each volunteer will be asked to write and exchange letters with a student they have been matched with. Volunteers will need to write just one letter each week. RSVP will supply all of the stationary, envelopes and we will even transport the letters back and forth!

At the end of April, we will conclude the program with a fun celebration where pen-pals get to meet each other. WE offered this program last fall and it was a huge success!

Our goal is to introduce elementary age students to the lost art of letter writing and how much fun it is to write and receive letters. With all the technology available to us today, e-mail and texting is much more common than letter writing.

To sign up for this fun program or to obtain more information: Call Deb Johnson-Schad @ 649-1699 or e-mail at rsvp@ccwinona.org.

I look forward to hearing from you!
